Did you know the same remedy for your headache can help you grow stronger tomatoes?
Aspirin has been shown to mimic a hormone in tomatoes that tricks the plant into thinking it has been attacked. This SAR (systemic acquired resistance) is a natural defense mechanism and when it is triggered it will result in a healthier, more fruitful plant.
To trigger the SAR response simply dissolve one non-coated aspirin (325 mg) in a gallon of warm water. Spray on tomato plants when they are about 18” tall and before the disease arrives in your area. Spray every two weeks. Some gardeners even bury an aspirin in the planting hole. Aspirin, while successful when used on tomatoes, has not been shown to be effective on other vegetables.
